We are progressing Wairoa Stream restoration again this year.

Magnificent progress has been made by a committed few to tackle the impenetrable weeds and clear the way for track-building and planting.

We picked up from where we finished planting last year and cleared another 130m of difficult terrain toward Sammaree Reserve choker with weeds, spoil and rubbish! We removed large gum and pine trees and hauled out 5 trailer loads of rubbish – oil filters, tyres, beer bottles, plastic, car bodies, boat trailers - and buried an outcast concrete carpark! We created large piles of chip mulch and approximately 12 truckloads of green waste are waiting to be taken to a green fill site.

Our digger driver from Northland Excavators is a master of his trade contouring the bank for planting and
creating a flat walkway close to the stream.

FNDC also came to the party liaising with adjacent landowners
assisting with removal of trees and providing disposal of waste at Whitehills.

Kevin Baxter is also proving the green fill site.
A wonderful example of good collaboration.

Planting this year will be late June or early July so look out for our notification.
